Ziraldo Alves Pinto was born on October 24, 1932 in Caratinga, a city in the State of Minas Gerais. He started his career in the 50's at major newspapers and magazines such as Jornal do Brasil, O Cruzeiro, Folha de Minas, etc. In addition to being a graphic artist he is a journalist, playwright, cartoonist, caricaturist, and writer.
Ziraldo
became a household name in the 60's when he launched the first Brazilian comics
book made by a single author: A Turma do Pererê.
During the Military Years (1964-1984) he founded with other humorists O
Pasquim, a newspaper that generated a school of followers, and is
still greatly missed. His comics for adults, notably Supermãe and Mineirinho -
o Comequieto, also have legions of fans.
In 1969 Ziraldo published his first book for children, FLICTS, which earned him admirers all over the world. From 1979 onwards he started focusing his talent in the production of children's books. In 1980 he published The Nutty Boy, one of the biggest editorial hits in Brazil of all times. The book has already been adapted for the theater, comics, opera for children, video-games, Internet and movies. A sequel to the movie is soon to be released!
His books have already been translated into several languages including English, Spanish, German, French, Italian and Basque.
